  • Opportunity Summary:*

This management engineering position will lead a team of project managers and engineers to provide project planning, and execution, solutions in support of ongoing operations, new business development, and acquisition driven growth. A person at this level is considered an expert or authority in energy related equipment and systems. The successful candidate exercises independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures and practices. Performance results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures and practices.

  • Job Duties:*
  1. Manages in-house engineering staff by establishing priorities and goals for the department and individual staff; conducts quarterly progress reviews with staff and documents staff performance bi-annually.

  2. Manages and monitors the project management, design, and installation work of outside engineering/construction firms and represents DTE Energy's interest from a design, installation, and operability perspective.

  3. Provides support to project managers regarding interpretation, evaluation and resolution of technical design issues.

  4. Develops conceptual design, preliminary equipment sizing, project costs, manages budgets and maintains relationships with equipment vendors, engineering firms, EPC contractors, and DTE Energy’s customers.

  5. Conducts technical negotiations relative to project performance guarantees, schedules, scope, and pricing with outside engineering firms, customers, and equipment suppliers as needed.

  6. Monitors progress of outside engineering/construction firms; establishes reporting protocol and resolves any outstanding issues.

  7. Approves all construction budgets, staffing plans, and schedules in conjunction with operations’ personnel.

  8. Lead role in providing technical support and due diligence associated with greenfield project development, and acquisition of new company growth opportunities.

  9. Supports execution of company business plan, and participates as an integral component of senior leadership team.

  10. Maintains engineering department records in accordance with Company records retention policies, and regulatory requirements by working with internal Document Control personnel, and enforcing document management practices within the Engineering and Project Management Groups.

  11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowlede, Skills and Abilities*

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, from an accredited institution, in Civil, Mechanical, or comparable engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant graduate degrees in engineering, management, or business.

  • Experience in construction and operations Project Management preferably with an independent energy company or engineering & construction firm.

  • Travel is required (up to 40%).

  • Applicable work experience dealing with power generation (reciprocating engines, gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers, heat recovery equipment, thermal cycles), gas compression and gas pipelines with landfill gas experience viewed as a plus.

  • 10 years + supervisory experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of MS applications, including WORD, EXCEL and Primavera/SureTrak, in a Microsoft Windows environment.

  • Possess and maintain professional licensure.

  • Must be well-organized and self-directed.
