Mechanic

Location: Morgantown, WV

_ GENERAL SUMMARY_

Perform work related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas compression facility equipment including but not limited to; pumps, gas compressors, coolers, electric generation, dehydration equipment, and control systems. The position reports to the Operations Supervisor and the employee will exercise independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures and practices. Results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures and practices.

_ PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_

  • Performs routine operation, maintenance, and repair of rotating and fixed equipment including; compressors, pumps, coolers, dehydrators, separators, and control systems; and performs routine operating checks, adjusts, maintains, and repairs as required for efficient operations.

  • Prepares and strictly carries out a preventive maintenance schedule based upon manufacturers recommendations and personal experience for each piece of operating equipment.

  • Tests, calibrates and repairs safety control, and shut down devices on a regularly scheduled basis. Develops and maintains such maintenance schedules.

  • Maintains computer database and preventative maintenance system as required.

  • Submits requests for parts, services and materials to supervisor.

  • Must understand and have the ability to use precision tools required for the installation and maintenance of high speed rotating equipment.

  • Prepares accurate written and computer reports as required of all maintenance and repair work.

  • Performs or supervises major overhauls of equipment and assists with the construction of new facilities.

  • Assures that all facilities are maintained in a weed-free, clean, and painted condition and on a maintenance schedule to minimize downtime, lost production and maintain a safe operating environment.

  • Directs contract labor when necessary and monitors the activity of third party representatives when present on company sites.

  • Adheres to DTE Energy Safety & Environmental policy requirements in all aspects of work.

  • May work as a Pipeline Technician during absences or operational needs i.e. pigging, compliance activities, pipeline purging or commissioning.

  • Works under a normal five-day work schedule but must be available for overtime, weekend duty, evening or night call-outs as needed.

  • Maintains good working relationship with company customers, employees, and contractors.

  • Must be available to after-hours call outs and be on a rotating call out schedule.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as may be assigned by supervisor.

_ KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES_

High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. Minimum of six years’ experience in process plant or field facility engine and compressor operation, maintenance, and repair. The six-year requirement may be modified depending on qualifications.

  • Must have a working knowledge of gas compression equipment, coolers, dehydration systems, positive displacement and centrifugal pumps, electric generators, and control system maintenance, repair, and operations.

  • Have working experience operating, repairing, and maintaining compressors.

  • Have a working knowledge of pneumatic and electronic engine/compressor control systems, gas detection and emergency shut down system, operation, repair, and maintenance.

  • Must have computer skills including Windows-based word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Must be willing to assist others, learn new skills, and participate in a productive team oriented environment.

  • Must have valid driver's license for state of residency and be insurable.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the term of employment.

Must be able to enter and work in confined space vessels and areas to evaluate equipment condition or inspect work efforts by assigned resources.

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds in weight. In addition, the employee will occasionally push or pull up to 70 pounds in weight.

Vision requirements for this position include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

_ WORKING CONDITIONS_

Work is performed in both an office and field setting with exposure to extreme noise, vibration, high temperatures, environmental stress, and frequent interruptions. Work involves mechanical maintenance of equipment adjacent to operating machinery in an oily and dirty environment. Personal protective equipment must be worn for a majority of work duties. Work is often performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
