A Utility Technician requires that an employee shall be able to perform all the duties prescribed for a Utility and in addition be capable of and regularly engaged in Miss Digs, grading of manifold leaks, Meter Orders (under 800 TC). Also, they must be able to assist a Tech I or above with the fitting work on a service construction crew, building of manifolds, driving needle bars, making detector checks, and assisting on all leak orders. Utility Technicians will be able to perform all duties relating to the installation and maintenance of AMR applications (including any future automated meter reading systems). Executing all leak orders (with the exception of repair of mains & services). The employee shall be capable of installing service regulators and small meter manifolds and changing service regulators. They will also be able to assist Technicians of a higher classification, on all types of work to the extent of the employee’s ability during normal working hours. When responding to third party damages on call, this employee shall be able to assist a Technician 1 or above in the repair of service lines 1 1/8” and below. The employee shall possess a complete knowledge of rules and procedures governing the types of service work and the ability to properly recognize and refer work which the employee feels incapable of handling satisfactorily. Employees in this group will be required to work stand-by. “Leak orders” shall be understood to consist of all leak orders and complaints of leaks or odors, regardless of source of character. “Meter orders” shall be understood to consist of turning on and off, setting, reading, changing, and removing meters under 800 TC, and for all purposes may include residential space heating, commercial and industrial meters under 800 TC, and re-lighting all pilots turned off by the employee in the course of his/her work on the premises. An employee must satisfactorily perform the duties assigned under this classification for a total of six (6) months. This automatically qualifies an employee.

Utility Technicians will have use of a company vehicle and receive no vehicle maintenance payment.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Must have an insured vehicle and valid driver's license with a good driving record

(eight points or less)

  • Must pass the DOT drug test

  • Must pass the required testing

  • Must have the ability to obtain a CDL license

  • Must have experience working outdoors during all seasons, the ability to work in

varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, snow and light to

moderate rain.
