Job Summary:

Champions, organizes, and partners with diverse teams in Distribution Operations and Fossil Generation to ensure system security and continuity of service are maintained in a safe manner on the DTE electric system. This role ensures productivity is maintained through safe and concise operating orders and actions during normal and complex trouble situations. This is a system operations liaison role to Substations, Service Operations, Primary Services, and Engineering.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Directs and coordinates teams to resolve conflicts and interpret rules to support the operation of the DTE electrical system.

  • Organizes cross functional teams to address unique, complex or recurring issues effecting the efficient operation.

  • Develops policies, procedures, standard work instructions, and restoration plans for both planned and emergent work on the electrical system.

  • Champions continuous improvement (CI) initiatives focused on operating procedures and coordination of resources.

  • Attends operations committee meetings and advises on recommended practices on cross functional safety.

  • Provides feedback on operating articles and documents to safely achieve corporate objectives.

  • Ensures the authority of the system operations personnel is understood and executed to safely restore customers in an expedient manner.


  • Ten years of operational experience with advanced knowledge of electric generation, transmission, and distribution systems including:

• Advanced knowledge of installation, operation, and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment used in electric utility substations.

• Advanced knowledge of installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment used on overhead and underground electric utility systems.

• Experience as either a System Operator, Power Dispatcher, or electric utility electrical equipment operator.

  • Understands and is aware of collective bargaining agreements (CBA) as it applies to others.

  • Knowledge and experience administering lean manufacturing concepts.

  • Proven ability to effectively lead change management initiatives.


  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or electric utility electrical worker trade certification.

  • Ten years of experience as either a System Operator, Power Dispatcher, or physically operating electrical equipment to administer lockout tagout practices; including five years of experience supervising system operators, power dispatchers, or qualified electrical workers who operate electrical equipment and workforce represented by a labor union.

  • Six Sigma Yellow, Green, or Blackbelt certification.

  • NERC BI, BIT or RC Operator certification.
