Intermediate-level (bachelor’s degree) engineer, responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria; uses judgment in applying or recommending adaptations and modifications. Typically receives guidance from more senior- or ‘lead-type’ engineers, particularly regarding unusual or more complex problems; may consult other engineers or specialists concerning unusual problems and developments. Incumbents continue to develop subject matter expertise – frequently in a specific area(s) – playing a more independent role in the development of recommendations regarding more complex engineering objectives. Work is reviewed for accuracy, compliance, and the quality of the incumbent’s professional judgment. Primary accountabilities may vary (depending on the discipline or organization). Span of control = 0; this is an individual contributor job, although incumbent’s may play a role in coordinating and assisting entry-level engineers’ activities.
1.Investigates new technology, material and equipment, with application to safety, electrical system reliability, performance and cost.
2.Renders sound engineering decisions - under potential time constraints – with limited supervisory input.
3.Provides engineering input in process & continuous improvement teams & initiatives.
4.Performs assigned engineering studies, proposing solutions to engineering-related problems; develops models and analyzes data to support improvement programs, techniques & solutions; makes or assists in presentations of engineering-related projects to all levels of management & external parties (contractors, customers, etc.)
5.Prepares plans, specifications, work instructions and cost estimates for projects requiring engineering services.
6.May perform load studies and prepare forecasts as required for electrical system planning and budget preparation.
7.Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges prevailing practices & approaches with reasonably sound alternatives.
MINIMUM: Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology & the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 3-plus years of job-relevant experience. May require initial and/or periodic drug or fitness-for-duty testing, and the ability to report to different locations; incumbents are responsible for their own transportation.
PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering discipline dictated by the given functional area. Proficient in computer applications/software applicable to the relevant area/discipline.

•Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
•Broad understanding of power generation, transmission, distribution and regional power dispatch issues.
•Ability to work in a team and/or matrix structure, supporting multiple clients.
•Flexibility & the ability to work with shifting priorities; embrace new/evolving responsibilities; balances multiple demands from superiors, peers or less experienced engineering personnel in a positive and even-handed fashion; displays a calm demeanor under pressure.
